The Yokotas expect Gottlieb will be a natural. Ricky says simply: “He gives me a reason to get up in the morning.” You can’t train a dog to love, but absolute bonding is what makes a true companion. The dog picks up items for Ricky and fetches the newspaper and his shoes. Another dog lives with Ricky who has multiple sclerosis. One dog helps Mary, a veteran with limited mobility following an accident. One of Yokota’s previous dogs is ready for a match and two others are successfully in service.
